We are huge fans of Jen Born from PS Enjoy Your Life! In our home- we have at least 14 pieces of art by her. And we just saw her at Corn Hill Arts Festival and commissioned two more pieces to her. So, the fact that she was available to create our 2019 Festival art work- well, we were thrilled and absolutely love the end result she created above!
Here is some information Jen shares about herself on her website.
I was born and raised in the good ol Flower City, Rochester, NY. I’ve happily
lived here for the majority of my life besides the years I spent going to college at SUNY New Paltz in the beautiful Hudson Valley. I always knew that I wanted to do something with art. My favorite past times as a kiddo were coloring, building forts, watching people draw. I used to play a game by myself where I’d have 5 random objects and have to turn it into something. I guess you could say that I’ve always looked at things differently than most….or maybe I was just watching too much ‘MacGuiver’? Who knows, either way though, out of the box thinking is just the way I work. Yes, I could be labeled as ‘weird’- but hopefully that cool kinda weird=)
So, let’s see…after graduating from college with a BFA in Painting and Drawing and having no clue what I was going to do to make money to pay for those student loans I just acquired, I dove right into the 9-5, Monday-Friday path. It never felt right for me though. I am an incredibly hard worker but found myself never wanting to go to work, mostly because I knew it wasn’t right for me. I believe we all have a purpose, and for me this was not it. It wasn’t until an injury kept me out of work for a while that I really started throwing myself back into art. I felt alive again. I would work and work and work on my art, every single day. But the thing was, it didn’t feel like work. It felt like I was tapping into a natural part of who I was that I had ignored for way too long. And… it was amazing.
People often ask me how I came up with my business name, ‘PS Enjoy Your Life’. Well, it started out as a reminder to myself to do what makes me happy and to put my all into something and trust that good things will come from it. As I created, I began to wonder how this way of thinking could help others. This is what really drove me and has been my major source of encouragement over the years. To keep going, spreading smiles, hope, and love to people who need it most. When a person battling cancer buys one of my enjoyablocks to use as a source of hope and faith, or a lost soul finds comfort in one of my ‘follow your heart’ blocks, or a mother who just lost her son is comforted by the simple phrase, ‘PS Enjoy Your Life’…that’s it, at the very core. I’ve found my purpose in this business and can only hope that it helps others find theirs or at the very least, puts a smile on their face. Because let’s face it, life is short, we might as well ENJOY IT!
